This residence provided a unique challenge to renovate an historical building with significant architectural features.
The client approached us with a proposal to renovate an AMAFA protected House in Morningside, Durban. The brief involved the design of a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom house on a challenging site, with a severe slope. Our town undertook a feasibility study for the project, involving a structural and geotechnical evaluation of the site, and then proposed the most economic, aesthically suited solution to the client.
We opted to retain the historical significance of the gable roof ends, while achieving a modern minimalist design. We were also able to save money the client money by using the existing foundations to support the new structure.
